DIR EN GREY - UROBOROS remastered and expanded out on the 20th of January 2012
A remastered version aptly titled UROBOROS Remastered & Expanded brings you 15 tracks, now including the long version of ‘SA BIR’ that was only heard live before, the exclusive version of ‘BUGABOO’ that was previously only available on the limited first press analog release, ‘DOZING GREEN’ and ‘GLASS SKIN’ with Japanese lyrics, and ‘HYDRA 666’ the coupling track on single “DOZING GREEN.” With the the return of sound engineer Tue Madsen, who worked on the band’s latest album “DUM SPIRO SPERO” the sound of “UROBOROS” is reborn.
UROBOROS Remastered & Expanded will be available for download on the 20th of January.
DIR EN GREY issue open letter about Japan
Japanese rockers DIR EN GREY have issued an open letter to fans.
The band address the this year’s tragedy in Japan and have spoken about their new album.
“The earthquake this March took the lives of many people, including many DIR EN GREY supporters. Now, in many places throughout the country, high radiation levels have been detected; everyone including ourselves has been exposed to the radiation and there are even some who say the contamination is so bad we are at risk to not be able to travel to the USA and other countries in the future.”
“On March 11th, the band was in the studio in Tokyo working on the new album when the earthquake hit. Afterwards the power shortages and transportation chaos caused further complications, and our many thoughts crossed our mind: ‘will this album really be completed?’; ‘will we ourselves be able to continue working towards the completion?”; and “is it right to continue making this album?’”
“August 3rd 2011 is the release date of our new album DUM SPIRO SPERO. This normally would have been a wonderful day where our work was to be released out into the world. However, there are still many people in Japan suffering from the disaster and so with the intention of self-restraint, we will to refrain from words of joy on this occasion.”
“But we cannot stop moving forward due to this. We are currently in Japan now; however it is unclear to what extent the government’s statements are correct, and to be honest, no one really knows what is going on in Japan right now. The safety regulations for safe level of radiation exposure keep getting increased higher and higher, yet the only official announcement is that “there is no effect on health.” We can no longer tell whether we are a democratic nation. Unless you are careful with your words, you will be taken down with significant force. At this point we do not have the ability to truly find out what is occurring in our own country.”
“However, we want to know the truth. People are able to overcome huge obstacles and problems if they know the truth.”
“In the album title While I Breath I Hope, and our music video Different Sense that we released just prior to the album, our sense of wanting to take action that will lead to a breakthrough in the current situation is reflected.”
“The beginnings of something as significant as the velvet revolution are said to have been in the Prague Spring which was started by a rallying of people of culture.”

Tell us about the album title “DUM SPIRO SPERO”:
Kyo: It doesn’t matter how you interpret, or if you take the paradox meaning of the title. I’d like to leave the interpretation to those who read our lyrics and listen to the songs on this CD.
Toshiya: We live in a world where we don’t know what is the truth what we should believe in. I just wanted to put some hope into the music that we created.
Kaoru: And, the title is what we can say to the world as the people of Japan.
Hageshisa To, Kono Mune No Naka De Karamaitsuita Shakunetsu No Yami”, “LOTUS” and “DIFFERENT SENSE” are all singles released before the album. Can you please tell us where these songs stand in DUM SPIRO SPERO?
Kaoru: Those songs are definitely some of the highlights of the album, but they are actually the more catchy and easy-listening songs on this album. Can you even imagine what our other songs are like?
What do you want this album to be to those who buy the record?
Kaoru: It can be their anything at all. We’ve put our all into this album, now it’s your turn to make something out of it.

DIR EN GREY safe and well following Japanese earthquake
Following the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Japan earlier today (March 11), a spokesperson for DIR EN GREY has contacted Kerrang! to say that the Osaka rockers are safe despite being in Tokyo when the natural disasters occurred.
“The band were in the studio working on their next record in Tokyo when the earthquake struck,” reads a statement from the band’s management. “All the members are all right and safe. But we still have aftershocks.”

DIR EN GREY causes world sensation at the APOCALYPTICA show in Los Angeles!
A sensation took place on APOCALYPTICAs 7th Symphony Tour in North America, when Kyo from DIR EN GREY entered the stage for the world premiere of the APOCALYPTIKA song „BRING THEM TO THE LIGHT“.
On the 8th of September 2010 APOCALYPTICA announced the world premiere of „BRING THEM TO THE LIGHT“ at LA’s Nokia Club with Kyo the vocalist of DIR EN GREY on the lead vocals.
That was a world premiere and most of all a world sensation for DIR EN GREY and for their fans, too. Kyo had never before featured another band.
That he was absolutely ready for this step and matched great with APOCALYPTICA can be witnessed in this video:
And it seems like Kyo enjoyed rocking with APOCALYPTICA- he did it again at their show in San Francisco.

On January 9th and 10th, 2010, the beast took flight into the Nippon Budokan. The world of “UROBOROS” is brought to life and captured from every angle on DVD and CD over those two days. In short, it is a staging of the kaleidoscopic world of DIR EN GREY with highly-charged visuals packed back to back in synch with the continuing cycle of the beast from death to its rebirth.
At the end of 2008, the creative ideal of ”UROBOROS” took off into the world from Osaka-jyo Hall. Continuing their journey, the band took off to the United Kingdom for the “Kerrang! Tour 2009.” Upon their return, they embarked on a nationwide tour, “TOUR09 FEAST OF V SENSES”, hitting numerous local districts all over Japan.
